It’s finally summer and, if you’re like most families, you’ll be doing some kind of traveling this year. We recently took all nine kids on an extended trip to visit family 1200+ miles away. Needless to say, we covered a lot of ground and made a lot of pit stops along the way.
Before we left I was nervous about our three-year-old daughter and all of the public restrooms we would be frequenting during those two weeks. When my older daughters were small, I hauled our little potty chair with us in a large canvas bag – don’t judge. 🙂 I just could not put them onto the toilets in the rest stops and gas stations along our way. My boys were so much easier; lift them up a little and pray for good aiming skills.
We no longer have the little kid potty chair (after seven kids I learned it was just easier to potty train on the actual toilet at home) so, before we left, I was in the market for a travel potty seat for my little girl.
I came across the OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty while browsing online. Amazon reviews were very good so I decided to just give it a try.
And I’m so glad I did.
Because that’s how I found
The Best Travel Potty Seat For Your Small Vacationers
This travel potty seat was my vacation best friend. It is lightweight, folds easily and very sturdy. My daughter is three and she fit easily onto it. It comes with a few disposable bags initially, but do yourself a favor and buy a pack of replacement bags at the same time that you buy the seat.
You’re going to need them.
It also comes with a very nice and thick plastic drawstring bag. I place the potty seat inside, along with some extra bags and a pack of wipes – you just never know.
The Oxo is small enough to slide into my diaper bag and carried pretty much everywhere.
This travel potty seat was my favorite “gadget” from our trip. Sure we were also loaded down with our phones, chargers, USB adapters, cameras, etc. But this – this was the MVP of all of the things we brought.
Our trip began with a 10-hour road trip to an airport that offered a great deal on flights to our destination – Minnesota. I was able to slide the potty chair into my diaper bag and discretely bring it into the McDonald’s restroom at our first stop.
Even though we hadn’t practiced at home before we left, my daughter had no trouble using it. Of course, the larger stalls in the bathrooms work better, but we also did the tiny stall dance during our trip.
After each use, just tie up the bag and dispose of it in the trash. Super easy.
Take 30 seconds and place another bag onto the potty before you put it away – you’ll be so glad you’re ready to go in case of a potty emergency.
Using Your Travel Potty Seat
The OXO is so easy to use.
There are two gray buttons where each leg connects to the seat. Depress them and the legs fold in.
As you can see, it’s quite compact. No more lugging huge potty seats on road trips anymore. While my daughter was already potty trained, I would definitely use this for potty training while traveling with a younger child. You won’t have to worry about filthy public toilets or being too far from a bathroom anymore.
We used this great travel potty seat everywhere. Restaurants, airports, and even in the back of the van in parking lots and at roadside stops. I was so impressed – I’ll be putting this on the top of my packing list for all future trips with the little kids!
